Villanova basketball standout Phil Booth is one of 10 candidates for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
The award, named after Class of 1980 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and 1950 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, is in its fifth year.
The award recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men’s college basketball. A national committee of the top college basketball personnel in October determined the watch list of 20 candidates, which is now down to 10.
Booth, a 6-foot-3, 194-pound senior, is averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game. His exploits have the first-place Wildcats (18-4 overall, 9-0) on top in the Big East with an undefeated record. Villanova is also ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. Booth also scored 14 points in Villanova’s 66-59 win over Creighton on Wednesday night.
In March, five finalists will be presented to West and the Hall of Fame committee. The winner of the Jerry West Award will be presented at the College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles on April 12.
