The Public and Catholic League playoffs will be in full swing this weekend. There will be postseason action Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8 throughout the Philadelphia area.

In Friday night action, the Public League Class AAAA semifinal will feature Martin Luther King against host Simon Gratz at 6 p.m. MLK has a terrific passing attack led by quarterback Nasir Boykin who has thrown for 1,900 and 20 touchdowns. The Cougars receiving corps includes Dominque McNeil (38 receptions for 649 yards and 7 touchdowns). The other key receivers are Mark McCray and Jayni Harris.

Simon Gratz signal caller Musa Al-Sulaimani has amassed 1,087 yards and 15 TD passes. Bulldogs leading receiver is Luke White who has 16 catches for 336 yards and 11 TDs.

In the Class AAA semifinal, Mastery North will travel across the city to face West Philadelphia in the school’s first night playoff game at 6 p.m. Mastery North has an exciting running back in Isaiah Tann who has rushed for 627 yards and scored 8 TDs.

West Philly has a great running game with Jarvis Cooper (436 yards, 10 TDs), Justin Hamilton (632 yards, 7 TDs) and Tarrell McLeod (475 yards, 4 TDs). The Speedboys quarterback is Lavelle Harper.

In the Catholic League, Father Judge will play St. Joseph’s Prep at Plymouth Whitemarsh. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Father Judge has a big time running back in Yeedee Thaenrat who has rushed for 1,205 yards and 21 TDs.

St. Joseph’s Prep has a talented rusher in Olamide Zaccheaus who can run in between the tackles. Zaccheaus was an All-Catholic League selection this season.

In the Class AAA semifinal, Cardinal O’Hara will clash with Archbishop Wood at William Tennett. Archbishop Wood running back Jarrett McClenton is threatening to go all the way with his breakaway speed. McClenton has gained 1,158 yards and tallied 19 TDs.

On Saturday, George Washington will play Ben Franklin in the Public League Class AAAA semifinal matchup. The contest begins at 6 p.m. at Simon Gratz.

George Washington has a great offensive and defensive player Shareef Miller. The Eagles’ 6-foot-5, 230-pounder, plays defensive end and tight end. GW will need him to provide a pass rush against Ben Franklin.

The Electrons have one of the best quarterbacks in the city in Kevin Caldwell who has thrown for 1,946 yards and 28 TDs. His top receiver is Rapheal Rodriquez who has 28 catches for 639 yards and 18 TDs.

In the Class AAA semifinal, Overbrook will play Imhotep Charter at the Northwest SuperSite. The game will begin at 6 p.m. Overbrook will try to control the ball on the ground with running back Ovonnie Baker.

Imhotep Charter has one of the best teams in the state. The team is led by quarterback Andre Dreuitt Parks who has tossed 20 TD passes while piling up 1,348 yards in the air. Tyliek Raynor is the team’s leading rusher with 1,101 yards.

In the Class AA final, Delaware Valley Charter will battle Prep Charter at the South Philadelphia Super Site. Kickoff will be at 4 p.m.

Del Val running back Nasir Bonner has amassed 905 yards and 17 TDs. Bonner will carry the load offensively with his running ability.

Prep Charter running back Quadir Strothers has rushed for 659 yards while scoring 17 TDs.

In the Catholic League Class AAAA semifinal, Roman Catholic will play La Salle at the Plymouth Whitemarsh. The kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

Offensively, Roman Catholic will be counting on running back Dimetri Kelly (890 yards, 10 TDs), wide receivers AJ Frazier (37 receptions for 594 yards, 6 TDs) and John Chaney III (24 receptions for 344 yards, 7 TDs) to move the football.

La Salle quarterback Kyle Shurmur has put together a sensational year throwing for 2,238 yards and 26 TDs. His top receiver is Jimmy Herron with 61 receptions for 834 yards.

In the Class AAA semifinal, Archbishop Ryan will take on Bonner-Prendie at Upper Darby. The game will start at 5 p.m.

Archbishop Ryan running back Samir Bullock has 1,553 yards and 15 TDs. Bullock will be the player to watch for Ryan.

Bonner-Prendie is led by quarterback Collin DiGlabo with 1,327 passing yards and 12 TDs.

In the Class AA final, Neumann-Goretti will play West Catholic at Cardinal O’Hara at 4 p.m. N-G running back Khalil Roane will be a key player for the Saints. Roane has rushed for 944 yards and 9 TDs.

West Catholic running back Kharee Ruley should be able to give the Burrs a spark. Ruley has 832 yards and 9 TDs.

In the District 12-1 Sub regional semifinal, KIPP DuBois will play Calvary Christian at Morrisville on Friday. The game begins at 7 p.m.
