Cheyney game aids Wall scholarship

A special basketball game will be played at Cheyney University’s Cope Hall Gymnasium on Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in honor of Keith Wall, former Simon Gratz and Cheyney basketball standout, who recently passed away. The proceeds from the game will go to the Keith Wall Scholarship Fund and Cheyney University men’s basketball.

Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for Cheyney students. The game will feature a number of former Cheyney basketball stars including Dominique Curry, Sharrif Bray, Tyrone Smith, David Burton, Kevin Pressbery, Ed Braswell, Assad Brown and Anthony Frazier.

Wall was a volunteer assistant coach at Cheyney. He had been involved with the program for more than 10 years. He played basketball for Cheyney from 1986-1990. During his four years playing for the Wolves, Cheyney posted a sensational 29-win season and an overall 69-44 record.

He was a member of the Cheyney University Athletic Hall of Fame. He was an active member of the C-Club and Cheyney Alumni Association. He received his degree in criminal justice and social welfare in 1991.

Wall played his scholastic basketball at Simon Gratz. In 1986, he was a third-team All-Public League and a third All-City selection. He was an assistant basketball coach at Simon Gratz from 1994-2008. He worked as a warrant officer with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania for 10 years. He has also received numerous honors for his work in the community.

 

Hrynko leads DePaul over Saint Xavier

Brittany Hrynko, former Engineering and Science basketball star, led 25th- rated DePaul with 19 points and 14 assists as the Blue Demons topped Saint Xavier, 91-59, in exhibition action at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago. Hrynko, a sophomore guard for DePaul, is one of the best players in the Big East Conference. She was an All-Public League standout at E&S.
