“Monte Carlo Night,” an annual summer affair sponsored by The R.O.S.E. Foundation, is one of the highlights of the summer season.

The foundation is the charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Omega Chapter and Monte Carlo Night, a great party for a great cause was an entertaining evening of casino games, dancing, auctions and raffle prizes with proceeds supporting college scholarships and community programs in the surrounding areas of Montgomery and Bucks counties.

Hundreds came out to support the event held at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill.

Sabrina Price-Powell, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Omega Chapter said, “The ladies of the Phi Beta Omega Chapter of AKA really outdid themselves again. Our passion and purpose shined through as we continued to serve those in Montgomery and Bucks counties. Our Monte Carlo night is our signature fundraiser. We were the first Pan-Hellenic organization in the suburbs to host such a casino event and continue to be successful with this endeavor. Special thanks to our chairpersons, committee members, PBO family, friends and fellow Greek supporters.”

Nicole McElroy , R.O.S.E. Foundation Board Chair, said, “Partnering with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Omega Chapter for this event is an honor and gives the R.O.S.E. Foundation an opportunity to raise awareness of our charitable purpose; secure resources to positively impact the quality of life for deserving women and their families.”

Other R.O.S.E. Foundation Executive Board members are Huan Baum, Marva Hardnett and Deidre Patterson. Directors are Nia Campbell-Hayes, Karen Hicks, Terri Lee, Selena Price-Kent, Betty Robinson, Janine Watson and Stephanie Pompey.

Supporters, wearing fashionable cocktail attire, had a chance to try their luck at black jack, craps, roulette, the infamous “hold ‘em wheel,” pokeno and bingo. The fun was continuous with dancing, light-fare, and bidding on wonderful gifts and prizes.

Fellow Pan-Hellenic leaders in attendance included Rodger Woodruff II, newly elected President of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Norristown Chapter attending with his lovely wife Wanda Woodruff, the Rev. Lorina Marshall-Blake, Cerise James, Leonard Bennett, Robert Hunter. Others “Out & About,” having a great time included: Darcel and Calvin Davenger; Roz and William Kilson Jr.; Janet and David Francis; Thelma and James Garrett; Sue Casey; Carolyn Hill; Carol Garner; Lana Shells; Julia Parker; Aariann Vaughn; Roma Little-Walker; Denise Ashe; Pat and Ben Gilbert; Trina and Mark Jones; Kaya Sherman-Knuckles; Mamie and George Prout; Debbie and Vince Robinson; Veronica Brown; and Kathy and Curtis Tatum.

The R.O.S.E. Foundation, a 501©3 designated organization, is a non-profit community organization whose charitable purpose is to secure resources to positively impact the quality of life for deserving women and their families. The R.O.S.E. Foundation has been operational since September 2003 and since that that time has contributed much to our community. They have provided over $58,000 toward collegiate scholarships, supported youth empowerment programs and women focused health forums. They have also actively supported women in transition such as female veterans of the U.S. military.

The organization strives to empower women in transition to achieve greater economic security and self-sufficiency for themselves and their families through initiatives that build self-esteem through education, the arts and self-empowerment, build self-reliance through economic awareness, develop financial literacy and health awareness, enhance life skills in the areas of health, family dynamics, and economics and enhance emotional competence and coping skills.
