Funeral services were held Saturday at Community Baptist Church in Chester for Vernon L. “Mickey” Cottman. He was 66.

Cottman died on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born and raised in Chester and graduated from Chester High School in 1967.

He retired from the SEPTA Transit Police Department in 1996. He briefly worked at Krispy Kreme as a manager in Wilmington, Del. and retired from U.S. Security at the Conoco Phillips Plant in Marcus Hook, PA in 2010.

Cottman was Preceded in death by his mother Marian J. (nee Johnson) Cottman. Survivors includ his devoted wife Carol Kirkland Cottman; two sons, Gordon Cottman of Timonium, Md. and Kyle of Marcus Hook; parents, Vernon H. and Deborah of Wilmington, Del.; three siblings, brother, Wilson “Bro” (Gwen) of Carney’s Point, N.J. and sisters Dawne “Judy” Lopes and Marian “Darlene” Cottman, both of Chester; three grandchildren and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing was held Friday evening at Community Baptist Church. Savin’s Funeral Home, Inc. handled the arrangements.
