Thelma Walker, a former surgical nurse, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. She was 78.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1940, in Darlington, South Carolina. Her parents, the late Boyd and Sylvia Player, moved to Philadelphia when she was very young. She was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and after graduation trained to become a nurse.
Walker had a long career as a surgical nurse on the Heart Team at Women’s Medical Center.
She was married to the late John Walker Sr. for more than 40 years and one son was born to their union.
She loved her family and was always willing to help others. She dedicated her life to Jehovah in 1975.
She is survived by: her son, John Walker Jr. (Joann); grandchildren, John Walker III, Cory Walker and Candice Walker; great-grandchild, Jeremiah Walker; brothers-in-laws, Darryl and Kenneth Walker; sister-in-law, Maryanne Jackson; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held June 1 at Ivy Hill Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Upper Level, 6826-40 Ardleigh St.
Emmanuel Johnson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
