Services will be held on Oct. 3 for Melba R. Guy.

She died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. She was 79.

She was born on April 5, 1935 and raised in North Philadelphia. Guy was a graduate of Simon Gratz High School. Prior to retirement, Guy managed a medical center for the last 20 years.

Guy believed in family and making a difference. She was involved in many local causes, including improving the lives of women and children.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles and Donald Patton.

She is survived by her son Dr. Jeffrey Guy of Columbia, S.C.; siblings Ursula Patton Temple, Howard “Frank” Patton and Jean “Terry” Mulligan; aunts Veronica Pleasant and Dorothea Merchant and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 2050 E. Walnut Lane. Viewing is at 9 a.m. Mass will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to Concerned Black Men, Inc. Scholarship Fund, 7200 N. 21st St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19138.
