Lawrence Ravenell, a retired Philadelphia police officer, died on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He was 83.
He was better known as “Larry” to his friends and family.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1935 in Philadelphia to the late Charles and Mary Ravenell. He attended Overbrook High School. Upon completion of high school, he served in the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged after three years of service.
Ravenell joined the Police Academy and became a police officer to serve and protect the people of Philadelphia. He worked as an officer for 25 years and received several accommodations for outstanding service. After retiring, he settled into enjoying life.
He is survived by: his wife of 33 years, Elaine Ravenell; sister, Louise; brothers, Melvin and Doyle; daughters, Gail and Angie; stepdaughters, Angel, Mona and Veronica; stepson, Gordon; sons-in-law, Lee, Vern, Kevin and Reggie; daughters-in-laws, Renee and Alicia; godson, Larry; grandchildren, Keisha, DonTay, Martina, Ronald and Angela and other relatives and friends.
Services were held July 22 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 5732 Race St. Viewing was at 9 a.m. Services followed at 11 a.m. Burial was in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
