Isabella Jamison, a faithful church mother and member, died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019. She was 105.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1914, to the late Hammie Romey and Alberta Hightower in Bamberg, South Carolina. She was the sixth oldest of 20 children.
Jamison accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Capernaum Baptist Church in Bamberg.
She met and married the late David Jamison Sr., on April 20, 1930. From this union, two children were born.
Jamison and her family settled in Philadelphia in 1942. After her arrival, she joined Williams Chapel Baptist Church, which later became Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was a faithful member for over 50 years and served on the Senior Choir for many years.
In 2002, she was a founding member of New Pentecost Christian Church & Ministries, under the leadership of Bernard X. James Sr., and was affectionately known as the church mother.
She performed a variety of household services for many families. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking and watching her favorite game shows. What she loved most was reading her Bible and listening to Christian radio. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and was very generous toward others.
“Isabella was full of wisdom and taught us many things,” said her family in a tribute. “But what she stressed most was that God will take care of everything.”
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Emma.
She is survived by: her son, David Jamison Jr., (Gloria); siblings, Dorothy Boyd, Francis Moody (Lenel) and Vance Romey (Blanche); grandchildren, Patricia Bighum, David III (Frederica) and Wanda Robinson; great-grandchildren, Tamara, Tiffany (Charles), Julian, David IV, Jasmine, Tyler (Tegest), Michael Jr., Javis, Jada, Avery, Nicholas and Andre; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Jan. 10 at Metropolitan Church, 3500 Baring St. Viewing is at 9 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial is at Greenmount Cemetery.
