Gary Duckett, a U.S Army veteran, died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019. He was 53.
He was born in Philadelphia on March 11, 1966 to the late Irvin and Barbara Duckett. He was the youngest of three siblings.
He attended schools in the School District of Philadelphiaand graduated from West Philadelphia High School. While in school, he made the honor roll in consecutive years. He was also named salutorian during his high school graduation and received various awards for being the most likely to succeed.
After Duckett served two years in the U.S. Army. He later obtained jobs at Macy’s, Newport Food Service, CCT (Paratransit) and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prison system.
“Gary found the brotherhood he always dreamed of having as a police officer in the department of corrections,” said his family in a tribute.
He met the love of his life, Tamika in the 1990s. They were married on Oct. 8, 2011.
“Gary was not a religious man, but very spiritual,” said his family in a tribute.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Ronald, Jasmine and Joshlyn; grandchildren, Nyasia and Suriyah; friends, Terrance, Ernie and Terry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Services were held on Nov. 29 at Reformation Lutheran Church,
