Frances Williams, a homemaker, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at her home in Glenside. She was 85.
She was known to most as “Mom.” She was born on Sept. 14, 1934, in Quincy, Florida to the late Humphrey and Marietta Byrd. She attended school in Florida.
Shortly after completing school, she married Willie Williams and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. After the birth of her son Norman in 1953, she and her husband moved to Philadelphia. She gave birth to a daughter in 1955.
She and her husband moved several times and eventually settled in Glenside, where she resided until her death.
Williams was a homemaker for most of her life. However, she worked as a housekeeper and hospital aide at various times.
She cared for her two children and with her husband, brought them up with respect for the Lord. She was passionate about attending church. She loved to laugh and help those in need.
Williams enjoyed bowling, reading and taking trips to Quincy, Florida, to see family and friends.
In addition to her former husband; she is survived by: her daughter, Marguerite Childs; son-in-law, Les Childs; sisters, Martha Chapple of Huntsville, Alabama, and Mary Andrews of Quincy, Florida; grandson, LaMar Childs (Amanda); granddaughter, Melinda Childs; great-grandson, Max Childs; great-granddaughter, Mia Childs; and other relatives and friends.
Services were held Oct. 5 at Emmanuel Johnson Funeral Home, 6653 Chew Ave.
