Calvin C. Davis Sr. was an entrepreneur who served as a tax accountant in North Philadelphia for over 30 years.

Davis died Sept. 10. He was 86.

Davis served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the World War II Victory Medal. After his years of distinguished service, he began his 45-year career at Campbell Soup Company as a plant engineer.

Davis raised his family in the West Oak Lane section of the city where he was known as a civic leader, brother, mentor, friend and financial counselor.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janie Davis; children, Calvin Davis Jr. (Yvonne), Gregory M. Davis (Roxanna), Cheryl Davis, Troy White (Nadia), Tori Davis Artis (Lance); grandchildren, Tamika Davis Sumner, Catrina Wydner (Leonard), Jamar (Davis), Gregory M. Davis Jr., Shannon Taylor, Dwayne Kato Davis (Nsegah), Chanda Cornelius, Troy K.D. White, Azza White, Kenneth Johnson-Artis and Elisabeth Artis; great-grandchildren, Tyrus Sumner, Kirea Wydner, Cedric M. Wise, Breyana Hudson; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held September 17 at 10 a.m. at New Destiny Fellowship, 906 E. 16th Street, Wilmington, Del. A repast will follow at Kings Wood Community Center, 2300 Bowers Street, Wilmington, Del.
