New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy plans to sign legislation allowing terminally ill patients to seek life-ending medication.

The New Jersey Senate approved the "Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act" in a 21-16 vote Monday. Gov. Murphy said in a statement that he supports the measure and would sign it into law.

“Allowing terminally ill and dying residents the dignity to make end-of-life decisions according to their own consciences is the right thing to do,” Murphy said.

Democratic senators Nicholas Scutari, Richard Codey and Senate President Steve Sweeney all sponsored the legislation.

"This is a humane and dignified process that respects the free will of terminally ill patients," Senator Scutari (D-Union) said. "We should permit qualified patients to make the decision to end their own lives in a dignified manner. There is no good reason for them to be forced to prolong their pain and suffering or to prolong the grief of their loved ones if they make that choice."

This is both sensible and moral , long overdue since humans evolved from their primitive ancestors and finally giving us the same rights

Well thank you Doc, good to know the useless eaters will be weeded out. Assumption: they'd rather be dead than live this way. This is blatantly false. Look up disabled actress Liz Carr's advocacy against euthanasia. Who decides what is OK life and what's not? if you're in a coma, but have locked-in syndrome- perfectly aware but unable to respond- should we terminate you because it's costly or inconvenient? If your 12yo son cracks his neck in a swimming accident, and becomes quadriplegic, but is neurologically intact, should you pull the plug on him? Look into the countries who currently allow euthanasia like Belgium. It went from the terminally physically ill, to "any suffering"- which includes depression/mental health issues in physically healthy people, and has now been extended to children (2014). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_euthanasia In other words, I can kill anyone legally once the door is opened. What about those with dementia or Downs syndrome.. are they competent to choose.? A woman with dementia who had a poorly worded advanced directive to euthanize had to be forcibly held down by family for the doctor to stick in the needle. Is that OK? https://www.lifenews.com/2018/01/26/elderly-woman-resists-being-euthanized-when-she-sees-the-needle-so-her-family-held-her-down/. This "I'm captain of my own life "rationale doesn't fly when others have to decide to take someone's life, or do the actual deed. Norway stamped out Downs syndrome by aborting all babies who tested positive prenatally. Who's next? Brown people? Poor? Be careful what you wish for... .

The left is all about killing the young and the old, next they will want to kill anyone they deem socially unacceptable or those that don't agree with their fascism...

Nobody's going out and executing old people. This bill offers a humane choice to people whose illnesses are otherwise condemning them to a slow, horrible death. How can you possibly equate the two?

Ooooo guess who got added to the secret "90th trimester or later" abortion list!

See, this is the kind of willful ignorance people who get their news from Fox display. Giving terminally ill people the right to end their OWN lives isn't murder. Do you know who's murdering people? The right, by not allowing affordable health care. Eugenics by neglect. How you can stand behind a president who is also willfully ignorant. Oh wait, never mind.

Get your head out of your behind? Neither FOX or Trump are causing people to die. Anyone who wants healthcare gets it. This is America. Where do you live? It definitely is not in a world of common sense.

Wrong. Anyone who needs emergency care can get it regardless of the cost but the high cost of it has led to healthcare bills being number one reason for bankruptcy. For people who have recurrent medical costs for medically necessary medication, devices, and equipment, it can be extraordinary difficult to get them if they do not have health insurance or a high paying job. Look into the highly publicized reports of patients dying due to how expensive insulin has become in the US and consider that their situation is one of only many different but similar situations where patients may die due to high healthcare costs.

I'm one of them as well and with Trump's positions on the ACA and the pre-existing health condition policy it may become even more difficult than it already was for me to obtain healthcare coverage because of my physical limitations, age, and job experience. That policy would have protected me and many others when changing jobs but now that could become even more difficult than it already was.

No one has made it illegal for you to self overdose, hang yourself, etc. The problem is you're asking the medical profession to do it for you. Why put the power in someone else's hands..did we learn nothing form the N**is? Why do prisons have lethal injection machines? In the past, both state medical boards, and the AMA threatened to legally prosecute physicians who assisted in executions as it was unethical for doctors to use medicine to kill someone. Read Robert Proctor's book: Racial Hygiene, Medicine Under the N***zi. They weaponized the medical system to do their bidding by offering free tuition to medical school for native born Germans who had to join the party. The notion of free tuition is being proposed in the USA at John Hopkins. If I can compel staff to participate in abortions (against their beliefs) in order to have a job, what's next? I've seen a lot of folks die in hospitals, etc as I was in medical care for over 25 years. I have seen off four relatives through Hospice. How many dying folks have you taken care of?

Since when did people need governmental permission to off themselves? This is the USA....not Europe!

Without changes to the laws, emergency responders, cops, mandated reporters, etc, are legally required to do everything in their power to prevent someone committing suicide for any reason. Doctors have their licenses revoked for participating in assisted suicide. People can be criminally charged for assisting someone's suicide. Just because you want to think that we're 'murica, land of the free, doesn't mean it's actually the case right now.
