Manuel Smith Sr. was found safe on Wednesday, according to family.
Philadelphia police were looking for 58-year-old Smith, who went missing earlier this month.
Smith, 58, was an activist with the Philadelphia NAACP.
Smith’s son, Manuel Smith Jr., said in an interview that his father was last seen on Aug. 1. The next day, Manuel Smith Sr. had plans to rent a car and go on an outing with his brother, whom he helps care for, Manuel Smith Jr. said.
“But he just never showed up that morning,” Manuel Smith Jr. said about his father. “This is a functioning adult who really was there one day and isn’t there the next, and there’s no answers to why that happened.”
Manuel Smith Sr., who lives in West Philadelphia, also has not shown up for work since Aug. 5, his son said. Manuel Smith Sr. has been working on anti-violence initiatives with the city.
