Philadelphia homicide detectives said they have charged two suspects in a fatal shooting that happened on Sunday, No. 13.
At 12:32 a.m. in the 1300 block of Hewson Street, Shane Kelly, 27, of the 6300 block of Craston Street was shot in the chest during a reported attempted robbery. A few hours later, Ryan McManus, 20, from the 2600 block of Sepviva Street, was arrested for Kelly’s murder. A second suspect identified as Richard Smith, 19, from the 1600 block of Eyre Street, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the same slaying. The suspects have been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, possessing an instrument of crime and related offenses.
In an unrelated homicide, police are looking for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a young Hispanic male that happened on Monday, Nov. 14 in the 24th Police District.
At 3:45 p.m. officers were called to the 2000 block of East Cornwall Street in response to a report of gunfire. When they arrived at the scene they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was identified as Jamell St. Thomas, 19, of the 3200 block of Frankford Avenue. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators report that the shooting followed an argument, but as of Tribune press time no suspects were under arrest. The investigation continues.
In another unrelated criminal investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department’s Violent Crimes Task Force are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a white male wanted for a bank robbery.
Authorities said that on Nov. 15 at 1:35 p.m., a man entered the Prudential Savings Bank branch office at 1834 Oregon Ave. He presented the teller with a threatening demand note. The suspect fled south on 18th Street in a green Volvo station wagon with Pennsylvania tag HLB3566 without obtaining any money.
He is described as a white male, between 36 and 40 years old. He is about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a heavy build. He is clean-shaven and was wearing sunglasses at the time. He was also wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and tan work boots. Anyone seeing the suspect should contact 911 immediately. Anonymous information can also be submitted at (215) --686-TIPS (8477).
