District 1199C announces new leadership

Philadelphia’s largest union of health care workers has made a change in leadership. Longtime President Henry Nicholas has assumed a new position as president emeritus. Executive Vice President Chris Woods will serve as District 1199C’s new president.

Woods is a longtime union activist. He previously led the union’s Hospital Division, which includes Temple University Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and many other large employers.

Nicholas previously served as president of the National Union of Hospital and Healthcare Employees and vice president of AFSCME International.

District 1199C represents over 13,000 workers in the health care industry.

GPCVC partners with Philadelphia Foundation

The Greater Philadelphia Corporate Volunteer Council (GPCVC) has formed a new partnership with the Philadelphia Foundation to help strategically guide corporate volunteerism throughout the region.

Both GPCVC and the Philadelphia Foundation work to develop effective public and private partnerships by increasing the pipeline of local volunteers to provide sustained support to the nonprofit community.

The GPCVC’s focus on employee volunteerism will be bolstered by the Philadelphia Foundation’s Key Skills Hub, an online portal in which corporate volunteers bring their professional expertise to bear on specific projects.

GPCVC-supported nonprofits will also have priority access to that marketplace of volunteers willing to donate their time to capacity-building projects in areas such as marketing, communications and human resources.
