It was another elegant fun evening at Ye Olde Philadelphia Ninety Third Spring Formal and Dinner Dance. The event was held on Sunday, May 26 at Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill and it was a feast for the eyes. Ladies were stunning in exquisite gowns and gentlemen were handsome in formal black tie.

The 2018-2019 club president Joe Hill remarked, “We were blessed to be surrounded by over five-hundred friends and family for our annual celebration which marked another wonderful milestone for Ye Olde Philadelphia.”

Other officers are: Everett A Gillison, vice president and incoming president; Eugene T. Golson, secretary; Stephen C. Brangman, assistant secretary and incoming vice president; William J. Burke Jr., treasurer and Derick Edwards, immediate past president. The board of directors are: Maurice Browne, Dr. Robert L. Chapman, Huie A. Douglas III, Charles Finney, Robert Hopson and Maurice Houston.

The evening began with a cocktail reception where there are always lots of hugs, laughter and conversation. Guests then entered the ballroom where president Joe Hill, Everett Gillison and David Donaldson acknowledged honorees and special guests. All veterans were asked to stand and were thanked for their service.

I had the pleasure of speaking with U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans, representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, about being honored by The Ye Olde Philadelphia Club as the 2019 Civic Awardee. The congressman, who served as a dedicated state representative for 36 years, expressed gratitude for being honored by the club whose distinguished, civic minded men are such an integral part of the Philadelphia regions history. Evans said, “The longevity and service of The Ye Olde Philadelphia Club has etched a 93-year history of excellence. I work for the citizens and what this outstanding organization has accomplished is not to be taken lightly. I am honored and humbled by this recognition.” Evans was the guest of club member Charles Finney. Others seated with Finney were Kimberly Turner-Dixon, Bill Dixon, State Rep. Isabella Fitzgerald, Sharlene Waller, Terri Grantham-Peeples, Bill Peeples and Marcia Penn.

Michael K. LeVere, in addition to serving as entertainment chair, has served as president, vice president, and board member, was honored with the “Outstanding Leadership Award.” It was a pleasure to join Michael, his wife Hortense LeVere and their guests- Alonzo and Gloria Kittrels, Irv and Carlotta Randolph and Gus E. Lacy III, Louis DeVaughn and Elaine K. Evans-DeVaughn.

Dr. Robert L. Chapman, the most senior active member of the club was honored for his outstanding service and dedication. Past presidents Denes Lawrence, Byron Goldson and Derrick Sawyer were also honored. All honorees received engraved plaques.

Among those individuals recognized were City Councilman Derek Green, former Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street and former City Councilwoman Marian B. Tasco. Archbishop Mary Floyd Palmer, history-making first female archbishop in the City of Philadelphia and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was also recognized and seen taking a candid photo with Darlene Adams, wife of member John L. Adams and other lovely ladies.

Just some or the beautiful members and their guests enjoying music by “Soul Survivors,” dancing and fine dining included guests of Joe Hill- Councilman Derek Green and his wife Sheila, Marian Hill, Sereena Quick, Damon Hill, Anna Quick, Thea Austin, Ivy Farrow and Saood and Carnesia Adney. Judy and Bobby Tillman, Valerie, Barrett Everett, Katherine Foy (guests of Everett and Elaine Gillison); Ronald J.
