“Empire’s” season just ended with a two-hour show season finale featuring Patti LaBelle and Jennifer Hudson. Filming for season two starts in July. Will the upcoming season be longer than 12 episodes? Fox executives want a longer season for the show to cash in on its runaway hit status. I hear director Spike Lee may come in to direct a few episodes. Plus, word is season two will show the days before the Lyons became successful. We’ll see Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) in their poor days, including before Cookie went to jail. But, before all that, should we expect to see this cast come Emmy night? Will the academy do the right thing and give the show props? Meanwhile, the “Empire” soundtrack is the No. 1 album in the country, even beating out Madonna for the top spot. Next week, I hope to have some exciting news about two of the stars of the show coming to Philly to perform.

So, what do we do now that “Empire” is over until the fall? We can watch season two of “Power.” The 50 Cent-produced drama returns to Starz on June 6. The show stars Naturi Naughton, Kathrine Narducci, Lena Loren, Greg Serano and Omari Hardwick. Speaking of Hardwick, he and his wife, Jennifer Pfautch, are expecting their second child, who’ll join their son.

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx has confirmed he will be playing Mike Tyson in an upcoming bio pic with Oscar winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese directing. Scorsese directed the boxing classic “Raging Bull” with Robert De Niro. A lot of people are whispering about Foxx’s love life. Is he dating Katie Holmes, the ex-wife of his former co-star, actor Tom Cruise? Aren’t he and Tom friends? Foxx, 47, has been seen out and about with Holmes, 36, but sources said they are just close friends and called it complicated. I’m sure it is complicated because Foxx is still very much involved with his latest baby momma, a woman he keeps well hidden. This woman is the mother of his five-year-old daughter. Foxx doesn’t like all this attention on his private life. As for Holmes, the former “Dawson’s Creek” actress no longer speaks to her ex-husband, Cruise, even though they have an 8-year-old daughter. Holmes is happy to be free from her marriage to Cruise, but is sidestepping all the tabloid talk about her, Foxx and stories ranging from romance to friends with benefits.

Bobby Brown is trying to stay strong despite all the turmoil that is going on around him. His daughter, Bobbi Kristina, remains in a medically induced coma following a tragic Jan. 31 incident where she was found underwater in a bathtub. Bobby’s baby with his wife, Alicia Etheridge, is due any day now. The Houston family is pressuring Bobby to take his daughter off of life support. Bobby’s own family, the Browns, want publicity and are looking to cash in on the tragedy. Bobby’s sister, Leolah, and her family are filming a reality show against his wishes. Nick Gordon, the play brother/fake husband has been acting out with pills and alcohol and playing a big part in his personal meltdown. Is he responsible for what happened to Bobbi Kris? Will Gordon be charged with attempted murder? Bobby Brown is trying to keep focus in the midst of all this. Brown is in control of his daughter’s medical decisions and life support. How is he paying these bills? He is using the money from Bobbi Kris’ estate to pay the medical costs. So, each day she stays on life support in the hospital, it draws from her inheritance. Bobbi Kris was left a huge inheritance when her mother, Whitney Houston, died. If Bobbi Kris dies, Pat Houston will gain control of Bobbi Kris’ inheritance, and Cissy will regain control of any property Bobbi Kris may have. Sources said Bobby Brown remains hopeful his daughter will come out of this coma. He also wants the money hungry people around him to leave him alone because they don’t care about his daughter, only the money.

Mo’Nique wants a publicly televised interview with director Lee Daniels. In 2009, they worked on the movie “Precious,” and Mo’Nique won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role. Since then, her career has cooled and she said Daniels told her she was blackballed in Hollywood because she is difficult and demanding. In an interview with CNN, Daniels clarified his statements as true and dropped the subject. But, Mo’Nique has been relentless, constantly bringing up Daniels in interview after interview. Now, she wants a televised interview with him. The comedienne, who said she was supposed to be on the runaway Fox hit, “Empire,” lost out on roles promised to her in “The Butler” and the Richard Pryor bio pic to Oprah Winfrey. Mo’Nique has two projects coming out this spring: The movie “Blackbird” and the Bessie Smith bio pic on HBO with Queen Latifah. Mo’Nique has been making the press rounds, but instead of talking about her upcoming work, she continues to bait Daniels. Daniels has been smart to ignore her and go ahead with his own projects. He does not need to respond and do a TV interview. He is doing his own thing, and Mo’Nique should do her own thing. No one wants to see a cat fight played out in public. This is not a reality show. This is real life with careers and reputations at stake. Mo’Nique, please stop this campaign against Daniels. Promote your work and projects. You are very talented, and you don’t need to do this! Daniels, continue to ignore her baiting. Do you, Lee! I love them both. I know them, and I want both of them to do well with their own things. Daniels has already started work on his next project the Richard Pryor biopic. Mike Epps will star as Pryor, and Eddie Murphy has joined the cast playing Richard Pryor’s father, a World War II vet and pro boxer. The Mighty O, a.k.a. Oprah Winfrey, and actress Kate Hudson will also be in the movie.

The ratings for the new season of “Dancing with the Stars” were down from last year. This kickoff was the lowest the show has seen in four years. Will changes be made to the show in the future? This will be the last season of judge Len Goodman, who is retiring from the show. This year’s dancers are an interesting bunch. Philly’s own Patti LaBelle is dancing this season, and I enjoyed her performance. She surprised me. LaBelle fans want to see her go the distance. I voted for her 12 times. At 70, will LaBelle be able to keep up with the dance routines? “Dancing with the Stars” is not an easy show to do. I think Rumer Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, will be the star to beat. Rumer gave a great dance performance.

Singer Angie Stone is out of jail after being arrested. The arrest came as a result of knocking her daughter’s teeth out after a fight. Stone, 54, got into an altercation with her daughter, Diamond Stone, after Diamond punched Stone in the face. Will the Stone family need Iyanla to fix their lives, or will they be able to work out their problems? Will mother and daughter be able to reconcile?

The animated movie “Home” is coming out on March 27. The movie features the voices of Rihanna, Jim Parsons (“Big Bang Theory”) and Jennifer Lopez. I had a chance to attend a screening. It’s a great family film. Rihanna recently made history when she became the first Black woman to become the spokesperson for the fashion house Dior.

Jill Scott is back! Check out the video “You Don’t Know” on our website WDASFM.com. I love the song, and the video is moving. Jilly From Philly has a winner with this one.

Last year, teen sensation and hometown she-ro Mo’ne Davis made baseball history as the superstar pitcher in the Little League World Series with Philly’s own Taney Dragons. Now, Davis, 13, is coming out with a new sneaker line to help underprivileged girls. Davis is teaming up with Make A Difference Everyday to unveil a new limited edition line of sneakers. Davis also signed a new deal for a movie based on her life. Go Mo’Ne!

Tavis Smiley is back with a new book about his friendship with noted author and poet the late Maya Angelou. The book, “My Journey with Maya,” is written with David Ritz. Ritz has done books on Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. Smiley said Angelou was a teacher and mother figure in his life. Angelou passed away last year at the age of 86.

Actor Anthony Mackie has just signed a deal to play Olympic great Jesse Owens in a new movie. In 1936, Owens won four gold medals in the Berlin Olympics, which was entrenched with Hitler’s Nazi party. Producers hope to have the film ready by the 2016 Summer Olympics, which will mark the 80th anniversary of Owens’ historic win at the Olympics. Mackie has a couple of big projects coming up, including his role as Falcon in the “Avengers” movie, “Age Of Ultron,” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

Kerry Washington is doing double magazine cover duty. First she’s on the cover of Ebony. She talks some about her 11-month-old daughter, Isabelle Amarachi, and husband, one time Philadelphia Eagle now retired NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha. Washington really gets into her personal passions over social injustice and what’s going on in America, racially and politically. Washington is also on the cover of April’s issue of Marie Claire, and the “Scandal” actress has signed on for the HBO movie the “Anita Hill Story.” Hill is the woman who accused now Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment on the job.
