After their sneak preview last spring received a warm reception from viewers as well as an eight-episode order from the network, celebrity couple Flex Alexander and Shanice Wilson return for a brand new season of “Flex & Shanice,” premiering at 10 p.m. Saturday, on OWN.

Most people know pop sensation Shanice Wilson for her Grammy-nominated hit song “I Love Your Smile” and actor Flex Alexander from the hit TV show, “One on One,” but few people know that this “fairytale couple” faced career stumbling blocks and quickly hit “financial rock bottom.”

Flex and Shanice, who have been married 14 years, realized that they needed to take their wedding vow “for richer or poorer” to heart, so with their two children, 12-year-old Imani and 10-year-old Elijah, they moved into a rental home and brought their hilarious extended family into the mix to help cover the cost. A total of nine people live in the house, including Shanice’s “momager” Crystal, who is constantly at war with Flex over who has “control” over her only child.

“There’s a tug-o-war in this house,” said Shanice. “My mom wants me to listen to her, my husband wants me to listen to him ...”

Then there’s Shanice’s flamboyant cousin Ruba, who maintains, “Anything that needs to get done, I am the guy that gets it done! I’m a beast, Yo!” He then appoints Imani and Elijah as his “assistants,” with his first order of business being to approach Mama Crystal with an interesting observation. “Nobody else is doing anything to accumulate any sort of income in this house,” he said. An indignant Crystal immediately snaps, responding, “I KNOW you not talking about me!”

In the series premiere, Flex is two hours away from doing his first stand-up comedy routine in more than 20 years, and is extremely nervous. However, he has the full support of his wife and kids. In the meantime, Shanice is cooking up a scheme to breathe new life into her own career. Although there apparently will be some pretty nasty arguments, plenty of family drama and very little privacy, through it all, you can still feel the love.

“Through those times, we’ve had good, we’ve had bad, we’ve had ups, we’ve had downs. We’ve been tested and tried!” said Flex.

“He’s my piece of candy. I call him my Snicker!” Shanice said lovingly, and her hubby responded, “You know what Snickers do — satisfy you!”

“Flex & Shanice” joins OWN’s popular Saturday night line-up, which includes the series “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” Six Little McGhees,” “Deion’s Family Playbook,” “Life with La Toya,” “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” and “Raising Whitley.” OWN is consistently among the top networks for African-American women on Saturday night.

“Saturday nights on OWN have become the place to be for viewers seeking great family entertainment, and we are pleased to share the newest members of our family with our audiences,” Sheri Salata, president of OWN, said in a statement. “Flex, Shanice and their big, loud, loving brood are not unlike many families today who have combined resources in order to get through some tough times. Seeing how their love, laughter and enduring faith in one another makes even the most challenging of days worthwhile is both entertaining and inspiring. We think our viewers are really going to connect with them.”
