American rapper Melii begins her performance on the Tidal stage.

Cardi B may have been the headliner Saturday night at the Made in America festival but earlier in the day another Afro-Latina was tearing up the stage.

Melii gained popularity with her bilingual rendition of Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow.” Since then, she has released her own singles, one of which was used by Rihanna to promote her makeup brand, Fenty and recently came off tour with Philadelphia's own Meek Mill. So, she's no stranger to Philly.

"Philly is amazing. I feel like it's the best crowd experience that I have ever had. Seeing all of my fans here, it was like having my family with me," she said.

The 22-year-old singer is grateful for the chance to perform at Made in America for her Philadelphia fans. "It's a blessing. It's an opportunity that not a lot of people get. I'm just blessed enough to have a good experience, " Melii said.

Being young and in the entertainment business can be a rough road to navigate but Melii says surrounding yourself with good people is the secret to success.

"As a new artist, it's good to have a team that knows what you're into and the types of crowds you like to play to. It's all about having a good connection with your team, " said the Bronx native.

Connection is important to the young singer. It's one of the things that drives her music and her career.

"As a woman, as human beings, we go through different things and knowing that listening to music could help someone inspires me. I want people to feel a connection to my music. I want to make sure that when they are hearing it they are not just hearing beats. I hope they are learning something that helps them,” Melii said.
