In a star-studded “Hawaii Five-O” airing Friday, Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. on CBS, Academy Award-winner Louis Gossett Jr. and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gladys Knight will guest star in a Thanksgiving episode titled “Birds of a Feather.”

The family-focused installment was written by series star Chi McBride, a new member of the Writers Guild.

“That’s a big deal for us,” show creator and producer Peter M. Lenkov told TVLine.com. “Chi called me up and said ‘I have this thing ...,’ and I said, ‘Write it!’ We met a couple of times and he turned in a great script!

In “Birds of a Feather,” Thanksgiving brings Percy Grover Sr. (Gossett Jr.) and Ella Grover (Gladys Knight) the parents of McBride’s character Capt. Lou Grover, along with his brother, Percy Jr. (Clifton Powell) to Oahu for a visit tainted by sibling rivalry that ultimately turns physical. Also, the Five-O investigates a thief who is crushed to death by an empty safe.

Motown diva and pop/soul icon Gladys Knight and her group, The Pips, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Their impressive catalog includes “I heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Friendship Train,” “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)” and “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

As an actress, Knight appeared in the 2013 feature film, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”

A 1983 Academy Award-winner for his role as Emil Foley in “An Officer and A Gentleman,” versatile veteran Gossett Jr. is also known for his portrayal of “Fiddler” in the groundbreaking TV mini-series, “Roots.”

A familiar face in film and television, Clifton Powell has portrayed everything from a preacher to a pimp, appearing in movies such as “Menace II Society,” “Next Friday,” “Friday After Next” and “Ray.” On the small screen, he recently appeared in “Saints & Sinners” and “Black Lightning.”

Powell was quite excited about working with the two entertainment legends, and while pictured on his Instagram account with Gossett he posted, “On the ‘Hawaii Five-O’ set with the Academy Award-winning Mr. Lou Gossett playing my Dad, and the amazing Gladys Knight playing my Mom. Thank you to my brother and friend Mr. Chi McBride for having me on board.”

In another shot, a smiling Powell posts “On set of ‘Hawaii Five-O. I’m bout to pass out y’all, hanging with the incomparable Gladys Knight!”

“Hawaii Five-O” is in its ninth season on CBS.
