Rock and roll singer Little Richard appears to be changing his tune on homosexuality and gender roles in his senior years.
The 84-year-old “Tutti Frutti” singer known for pounding out hits on the piano spoke openly with the Three Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN) about his decision to change his lifestyle.
The two-hour broadcast included a candid conversation with Little Richard and the hosts about his immersion in church life and denouncing his show-stopping flashy style.
“When I first came into show business, they wanted you to look like anybody but yourself,” said Little Richard. “And anybody come in show business, they’re going to say you’re gay. Are you straight? Are you a homosexual something? They’re going to say it.” he added.
“Jesus made men, men. He made women, women,” added Little Richard.
“Brother Richard when you first came into the church, what kind of adjustments did you have to make?” questioned 3ABN host Yvonne Lewis.
“It was hard. First of all I wasn’t used to dressing a certain way,” said Little Richard about 90 minutes into the broadcast. “I wasn’t used to wearing plain clothes. Everything was flashy.”
“I used to wear makeup on my face every day,” he added. “I had to stop all that if I wanted to be saved. And I think my life was worth more than powder. A real man won’t wear no dress.”
He also talked about his objection to men using women’s restrooms and vice versa.
