Andre M. McLain, general contractor in city, died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, of cancer. He was 69.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1949, in Baltimore. As a child, he loved rescuing stray animals, playing in the creek and putting frogs in his pockets.
McLain was educated in the Darby Township public school system and graduated from high school in 1968. After high school, he became a certified plumber and general contractor. He spent many years working at Sun Ship, the Philadelphia Navy Yard and the Philadelphia Water Department.
One of his favorite hobbies was fishing. He also enjoyed visiting the zoo, taking long road trips and socializing with family and friends.
His family said he will be remembered for being an awesome dad, a successful real estate investor and an entrepreneur.
He is survived by: his mother, Lottie Green; daughters, Phyllis, Diana, Janelle (Elie) and Nahira; son, Andre (Katina); six grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at Claude J. Edney Memorial Chapel, 634 Sharon Ave.,Darby Township.
