Rev. Herbert L. Strand was an ordained minister.

Strand died June 6, 2012. He was 67.

Strand was born March 17, 1945, to the late George and Nettie Strand. He was educated in Philadelphia public schools. He graduated from Overbrook High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 21, 1963, and was honorably discharged Feb. 21, 1969.

Strand graduated from the Bethlehem School of the Bible, Eastern School of Christian Ministry of the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His failing health prevented him from graduating from Palmer Theological Seminary this past May.

He was a member of Vine Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James S. Allen Sr. He served many as a minister, teacher, mentor, evangelist and chorus member.

He is survived by his daughter, Deena Denise Strand; granddaughter, D’aysia Griffin; and great-grandsons, Amajh and Amaurie Gowan.

Services will be held June 15 at Vine Memorial Baptist Church, 5600 West Girard Avenue. Viewing is at 9 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
