Ruth R. Martin was a former resident of Philadelphia.

Martin died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. She was 87.

She was born March 28, 1925 to the late George Knight and Ethel Prettiman in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Ruth was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated with honors from Germantown High School.

After a brief courtship she married Lonnie M. Martin Jr. in the early 1940s. To this union four children were born.

In addition to spending time with her family, Martin’s passion was her religion. For many years she was involved in promoting a Christian life with the Presbyterian Church.

In her waning years due to health reasons, Martin moved from the Philadelphia area to her daughter, Candy’s home in California.

In addition to her husband, Martin was preceded in death by her son, Theodore; brother, Frank and sister, Carrie.

She is survived by her children, Jane, Candy and David; son in-laws, Alan and Tyrone, sister, Ethel, 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, three brother in-laws, two sister in-laws and other relatives and friends.

Martin was cremated at the Trident Society Crematory. A private service were held Feb. 2 in Lake Elsinore, Calif.
