Alonzo “Eggie” Minor was the last of the OGs.
Minor died May 31, 2012. He was 93.
His family said he was a friend to all and upon meeting him you were no longer considered a stranger.
He was born in Middleburg, Va., on Sept. 12, 1918, and raised in West Philadelphia.
Miner worked with the School Board of Philadelphia for 35 years. He worked at all major bars in Philadelphia as a “mixologist” including the legendary 421 Bar at 56th and Wyalusing Ave. as well as the Old Playmate, later renamed the Second Office at 13th & Race.
He was married to Myrtle Minor for 47 years who preceded him in death in May 2006.
He is survived by his son, Alonzo Jr.; daughter, Connie Knight; granddaughter, Chanel Minor; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held June 7 at Shiloh Apostolic Temple at 15th and Master streets. Viewing is at 9:30 a.m. Services to follow at 11.
