Mary Erma Savage died Feb. 10. She was 88.
Savage was the last of eight children (all of whom preceded her in death) born to the late Tom and Jane Daniels on July 17, 1923, in Halifax, N.C.
She was educated in the Halifax School System and came to Philadelphia with her daughter, Reba in 1943. She worked for Campbell Soup Company for 45 years. After retiring from Campbell, she went to nursing school to become a licensed practical nurse.
Savage gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age in North Carolina. She joined Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church after arriving in Philadelphia.
She later moved her membership to Love Missionary Baptist Fellowship where she remained a faithful member until her death. Savage belonged to the Missionary Society, served with the nurses’ unit, and was chairperson of the kitchen.
In 1950, she married William Savage, who preceded her in death. Savage was a quiet woman who constantly gave her family God-filled sayings.
She is survived by daughter, Reba Jeanette Fountain; a son-in law, Levester Fountain Sr.; one granddaughter, Jeneé Green-Walker (Anthony); one grandson, Levester Fountain Jr.: two great-grandchildren, Brandi and Anthony Walker Jr.; one sister-in-law, Lucille Daniels of Halifax, N.C.; three nieces, Maryvelma Ward (Ernest) of Enfield, N.C.; Garlintine Terry (Swain) of Halifax, N.C.; and Missouri Pitman of Richmond, Va.; one godson, Walter Shands; and other relatives and friends.
