Funeral services were held on Friday for Veronica Darnice Clay, 43, at the Francis Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Harley officiated.
Clay was born Oct. 15, 1968, the only daughter of three children born to Henry and Ida Clay.
As an infant she suffered health issues, which left her paralyzed on the right side and suffering from seizures. With the love and support of her parents she overcame her sickness.
Clay was a daddy’s girl, as a child he woke her up each morning singing “Wake Up, Little Suzie.”
She attended Philadelphia public schools.
One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her family and friends.
Clay joined the To God Be The Glory Church in 1996. After moving to North Philadelphia, she became a member of the Fellowship Greater Jehovah Baptist Church.
Clay adopted the friends of her children and was known as “Mom”; even their children became grandchildren, which included Sadie and Emmanuel.
An animal lover, Clay always had a pet dog. She leaves behind two furry friends: Destiny and Bear.
She is survived by her parents and four sons, Kyle, Christopher, Anthony and Kenneth Clay, all of Philadelphia. In addition, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roderick and Jean Clay of Philadelphia and Gregory and Deborah Clay of Pikesville, Md., and eight grandchildren, Jazelle, Shymir, Ahkir, Nathan, Quincy, Anthony, Caleb and Matthew, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
