Beginning on Nov. 2, the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment, 8431 Germantown Ave., will host the Harvest Kitchen Tour.
The event, which will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m, will alloow visitors a chance to view and enjoy samples from local bakeries and shops. On Nov. 3, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature six local chefs showing off skills and giving visitors a chance to try samples.
The enrichment center is a non-profit organization that helps adults, 50-years-old and older who lives in the area, including residents of Mount Airy, Germantown and Montgomery County.
The events are held to keep the center, which provides classes, activities and resources to promote wellness and learning within the community, up and running.
"Last year, the Center for Enrichment sponsored a month-long Design Show House, featuring a single historically significant Chestnut Hill residence and the talents of two dozen interior decorators," said Mary Zell, executive director of the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment.
This year, the Harvest Kitchen will feature the Chestnut Grill and Sidewalk Cafe, the Bacchus Market and Catering, Campbell's Place, Heirloom, Roller's at Flying Fish and Tavern on the Hill.
"All proceeds from [this event] will be used to support the classes, informational programs, day trips and other activities which the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment provides to those '50 and better' living in northwest Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County," said Zell.
Despite the select restaurants being highlighted for the event, the reason for it is to highlight the beauty of Chestnut Hill, and all that it has to offer.
"[The enrichment center] expects not only to showcase the talents of some of the area's best chefs, but also the florists, bakeries and other providers of delectables in our neighborhood who are making donations to the Harvest Kitchen Tour," said Zell. "Most of all, our Center sees this [as] a wonderful opportunity for community-building."
Advance tickets for the event cost $30, but visitors have the opportunity to purchase tickets the day of the event for $35. For advance ticket buyers, they can be picked up on the days of the event at 8200 Germantown Avenue.
