Philadelphia high school football will be well represented in one of the biggest scholastic all-star games in Pennsylvania this spring. There will be several players from the Public and Catholic Leagues participating in the 56th annual Big 33 Football Classic.
The game will be played at Hershey Park Stadium in Hershey, Pa. In this all-star classic, the best from Pennsylvania will play against the top players from Maryland. The contest will be played on June 15.
David Williams, an outstanding running back from Imhotep Charter, will be playing in the game. Williams will be playing his college football at the University of South Carolina in the fall.
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound senior, led Imhotep Charter to a Public League AA championship and to the PIAA Class AA semifinals. He rushed for 1,790 yards on 194 carries while scoring 23 touchdowns last season.
Williams will be joined by his teammate, Najee Goode, Imhotep Charter. Goode, a talented defensive back, can cover a lot of ground with his speed and tackling ability. He can play the pass as well. He had six interceptions this season. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior, is a great defender.
Marquis Edwards played running back and defensive back for George Washington. Edwards, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior, had 98 carries for 469 yards. He also grabbed two interceptions in the secondary.
Jaryd Jones-Smith had a big year for West Catholic. Jones-Smith played extremely well on both sides of the ball. The Burrs huge offensive and defensive lineman led the team to a 7-4 record. At 6-foot-7, 320-pounds, the All-Catholic League standout was a tough player to stop up front.
The other local stars include: Ryan Winslow, defensive lineman, La Salle; George Griffin, offensive lineman, Archbishop Wood; Nick Arcidiacono, tight end, Archbishop Wood and Matt Galambos, linebacker, Haverford School.
