It was a big weekend for Frankford High’s football team. The Pioneers put on quite a show with their outstanding passing attack. Frankford’s senior quarterback Tim DiGiorgio hooked up with his brilliant wide receivers Wydell Compton, Brandon Jack and Renz Compton to provide the Pioneers with a 27-6 win over Northeast. DiGiorgio completed 13-of-23 passes for 227 yards and one touchdown.
Wydell Compton had four receptions for 38 yards. Brandon Jack had two catches for 16 yards. Frankford improved its overall record to 2-2 and 1-0 in the Public League AAAA Division. DiGiorgio has now thrown for 3,117 career yards. He is a solid Division I prospect.
It looks like George Washington has a talented player with running back Marquis Edwards who had 10 carries for 53 yards in GW’s 25-0 victory over Germantown. Edwards, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior, also scored a touchdown in the Eagles win.
Bok is off to a great start. The Wildcats are 4-0. They’re coming off a 40-0 win over Boys’ Latin. Quarterback Michael Riley and running back Larry Pelzer were standouts for the Wildcats. Riley was 4-for-4 for 99 yards and two TD passes. Pelzer had 15 carries for 111 yards and one TD.
Simon Gratz is another 4-0 team. The Bulldogs posted a 26-19 win over Mastery North. Davone Cornish, Bulldogs quarterback, completed 6-of-16 passes for 154 yards and three TDs. Cornish has completed 26-of-65 passes for 545 yards and 10 TDs this season.
Central has been playing some good football. The Lancers are 3-0. Central put together a 24-16 win over Fels. Running backs Hakeem Ellis and Jesse Gillis provided a solid ground attack. Ellis had nine carries for 59 yards. Gillis had 15 attempts for 52 yards. Jonathan Henderson, Central quarterback, completed 4-of-7 passes for 81 yards and one TD.
In the Catholic League action, Archbishop Wood defeated West Catholic, 27-6. Wood is now 3-1. Greg White, West Catholic’s brilliant runner, had 19 carries for 115 yards and one TD in a losing effort.
