When the Catholic League finals take place at the Palestra on Wednesday night, Feb. 20, four of the league’s best basketball teams will battle it out for a chance to play for the league championship. In the first game, St. Joseph’s Prep (19-4) will face Roman Catholic (18-5) at 7 p.m. In the second contest, Archbishop Carroll (19-4) will play Neumann-Goretti (18-5) at 8:30 p.m.

St. Joseph’s Prep is coming off a big 74-57 win over La Salle last week. Miles Overton, son of former Dobbins, La Salle and NBA star, Doug Overton had a game-high 26 points. Overton’s teammate Stephen Vasturia tallied 23 points to help the team move into the Final Four of the Catholic League.

Overton and Vasturia will play Division I basketball next season. Overton, a 6-foot-4 senior, will head south to play at Wake Forest. Vasturia, a 6-foot-5 senior, will play major college basketball at Notre Dame.

Roman Catholic defeated Archbishop Wood, 55-44, to advance to the semifinals. Rashann London, a 6-foot-2 senior, had 17 points for Roman. Shep Garner chipped in with eight points.

Archbishop Carroll popped Archbishop Ryan, 69-53 in their playoff matchup. Derrick Jones led the way for Carroll with 22 points. Yosef Yacob had for the Patriots. Yacob, a 6-foot senior guard, also had eight rebounds and seven assists. He will be playing his college basketball at Division I Binghamton next season. Nick Jones had 13 points for Carroll.

Neumann-Goretti, defending Catholic League champion, defeated Bishop McDevitt, 85-54. John Davis was the team’s high scorer with 25 points. Davis, a 6-foot-6 forward, will play Division I basketball at Towson next season. Ja’Quan Newton, N-G’s explosive 6-foot-3 guard, had 19 points. Troy Harper contributed 14 points. Hanif Sutton, a great defensive player, finished with seven points.
